A slim majority of 51% of Australians disapprove of Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s handling of COVID-19 and all related issues compared to 49% that approve.

ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence was virtually unchanged at 114.0 this week, down only 0.1pts from last week. Consumer Confidence has remained well above  the 2021 weekly average of 110.9 and is a huge 29.8pts higher than the same week a year ago, April 18/19, 2020 (84.2).

A special analysis of movement data in Australia’s Capital City CBDs over the past year shows movement levels hitting their highest levels in over a year in both the Melbourne CBD and Adelaide CBD after the recent Easter break.

Now 83% of Australians have either already been vaccinated (7%), say they are willing to be vaccinated (69%) or would be willing to be vaccinated once the Pfizer vaccine becomes available (7%) – a total of 83% and an increase of 3% points since February, according to a special Roy Morgan Snap SMS survey conducted on Friday April 9 and Saturday April 10, 2021.

The Labour/Greens government support is down 1% point to 57.5% in March. However, support for the Labour Party was up 0.5% points to 45.5% in March while support for the Greens dropped 1.5% points to 12%.

Latest Roy Morgan employment series data shows 1.64 million Australians unemployed in March (down 291,000 on February) for an unemployment rate of 11.4% - the lowest for a year.

New Zealand Consumer Confidence was down by 2.3pts to 110.8 in March, stopping slightly short of its historical average of 120.

In March 2021 Roy Morgan Business Confidence increased 3.2pts (+2.6%) to 124.0. This is the highest level of Business Confidence in Australia for over seven years since January 2014 (131.5). Business Confidence is now 10.4pts above the long-term average of 113.6.
